The acclaimed director tells us about his leading man in an exclusive clip
Bridge of Spies, Steven Spielberg's 29th film, is released in late November. The Cold War thriller - which stars Tom Hanks, Mark Rylance and Amy Ryan - has already received rave reviews.
The trailer established the film as a heavy but fast-paced war thriller, with the classic Spielberg combination of historic authenticity and big budget special effects. We saw a lot of Tom Hanks, who plays the lawyer recruited by the C.I.A and suddenly thrown in to the murky moral depths of the centre of the Cold War. It promised plently of intrigue and a whole lot of Hanks, in his most serious mode.
Now we've been given another snippet of the film, and this time it comes with exclusive behind the scenes footage.
Marc Platt, the film's producer, gives us an outline of the true story behind the film, and Steven Spielberg himself tells us what he loves about James Donovan, Hanks's character: "He's a stand up kind of guy... he stands up for what he believes, which is justice for all".
We get an insight into the now quite long standing relationship between Hanks and Spielberg (this is their fourth film together). Hanks was the 'obvious choice', says the acclaimed director, and they go on to detail their delightfully productive working relationship.
Bridge of Spies will be in UK cinemas on November 27
