No payment: cars that meet emissions regulations will avoid the ULEZ fee

Want to avoid a hefty fee when driving in London’s Ultra-Low Emission Zone (ULEZ)? Here are 10 cars that beat the charge

On Monday, 8 April 2019, Transport for London launched the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ), covering the same area as the Congestion Charge.

London has moved to improve air-quality conditions in its busiest areas. Drivers in the new Ultra Low Emission Zone area will pay a £12.50 daily charge as well as the Congestion Charge, unless their car or van meets stringent emissions regulations.

These are the Euro 6 regulations for diesel cars, introduced in September 2015, and the Euro 4 regulations for petrol cars, which came into force in January 2005.

When you choose a car lease deal, you’ll be enhancing your buying power and ensuring an ULEZ-beating car is well within reach

All-electric cars are exempt from the charge because they don’t generate any local emissions. Meanwhile, hybrids are subject to the Euro 6 or Euro 4 standards, depending on fuel type.

The easiest way to avoid the ULEZ charge is to drive a brand new car. Knowing you’re driving a car sporting the latest clean engines offers great peace of mind and is also a surefire way to comply with the latest emissions standards while benefiting from all the perks of a factory-fresh vehicle.

When you choose a car lease deal, you’ll be enhancing your buying power and ensuring an ULEZ-beating car is well within reach.

To help you decide, here are 10 of the best cars that avoid the ULEZ charge.
