Fancy a ride in my motorised sofa? Mad inventor and wacky racer Edd China takes us for a spin

Watching Edd China fix stuff is a unique and joyful experience. China, the bumbling mechanical genius whose best-loved contraptions include a drivable loo, the world’s fastest shopping trolley and a drag-racing milk float, is about to take me for a spin in his “Casual Lofa”, a road-legal sofa with a pizza pan for a steering wheel and a top speed of 87mph – but something's wrong.

I’m sitting beside him on the leopard-print mock-cushion, and my seat belt is jammed. China bends his huge frame over the clip and starts fiddling with it. His fingers are enormous, quick, and skilful, and within moments they’ve fixed the belt.
